Spanish LaLiga, Matchday 29
Kickoff: Sunday, 3 p.m. ET
A Madrid derby is always a spectacle, especially with high stakes involved. Atlético Madrid may trail their archrivals by nine points in LaLiga, but they can spoil Real Madrid’s title aspirations. Madrid currently sits four points behind Barcelona, who will host Rayo Vallecano — a team that has struggled on the road this season. This presents a golden opportunity for Diego Simeone’s men to deliver a significant blow to Madrid’s hopes while aiding Barça.
With solid form leading into this clash, Atlético’s confidence is high after their strong 3-2 win against a strong Real Sociedad side. Key players like Alexander Sørloth, and the ever-magic Antoine Griezmann open up significant attacking avenues for Atleti as they approach the Bernabéu with confidence.
Real Madrid, stung from their 5-2 loss in the previous encounter, seek retribution. Interim manager Álvaro Arbeloa appears to have addressed recent challenges, implementing a pragmatic 4-4-2 formation that has reinvigorated the team. With Thiago Pitarch and Aurélien Tchouaméni stepping up in midfield, they’re gearing up for a showdown. The expected return of Kylian Mbappé adds to their attacking threat after his return from injury.
MY PREDICTION: Real Madrid 1 – 1 Atletico Madrid. With immense pressure on both teams, this derby promises intensity. I foresee Madrid struggling to breach Atlético’s defenses, leading to a stalemate.
Carabao Cup Final
Kickoff: Sunday, 11:30 a.m. ET
This matchup marks the first domestic trophy contest of the English season, featuring the Premier League’s top two teams facing off. Currently, there’s a nine-point gap between City and Arsenal, with the latter unbeaten since January. A victory for Arsenal could grant them a psychological edge in the title race, while a City win might revive their dwindling confidence.
City have experienced a rough patch, with only one win in their last five matches across all competitions, and two painful defeats in the Champions League. In contrast, Arsenal’s strategy and control make them formidable opponents. Key players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice will play crucial roles in maintaining their defensive solidity, which has seen them achieve remarkable clean sheets this season.
Arsenal’s momentum is high as they approach this final, though the pressure is on, as this is their first final since their 2020 FA Cup victory. Many players in the squad are inexperienced when it comes to major trophies, whereas City’s squad is rich in experience.
MY PREDICTION: Arsenal 2 – 1 Manchester City. I believe Arsenal will manage to approach this final with the right mindset, and City may have trouble breaking through their solid defense.
English Premier League, Matchday 31
Kickoff: Sunday, 9:15 a.m. ET
It’s been a challenging season for Tottenham, who find themselves in a relegation battle for the first time in ages. Their crucial home match against Nottingham Forest is pivotal. Forest has experience in these tense situations, which might give them the edge as they face Spurs, whose form has left much to be desired.
Both teams are struggling under new management, with Spurs suffering four consecutive losses before squeezing out a draw against Liverpool. Forest, also winless in six, are finding it difficult to score and lack the typical boost from a new managerial hire.
Despite the home advantage, Spurs have achieved little at their own ground this season and need a response. With a meager two wins in 15 league games at home, the pressure on them to perform is immense.
MY PREDICTION: Tottenham 2 – 1 Nottingham Forest. Despite their struggles, I predict Spurs will finally secure a victory at home, as they can’t afford to miss this lifeline.

Battle for European spots
Lyon vs. AS Monaco
French Ligue 1, Matchday 27
Kickoff: Sunday, 9 a.m. ET
This match features a clash between the fourth and sixth placed teams in Ligue 1, with only four points separating two teams experiencing very different trajectories.
While AS Monaco may have recently exited the Champions League playoffs against Paris Saint-Germain, they are riding high domestically with five consecutive league victories. They are focused on climbing above Lyon into fourth place, with a crucial encounter against Marseille coming next weekend.
Monaco has recently discovered a winning formula, utilizing a tactical approach that optimizes key players like Aleksandr Golovin and Maghnes Akliouche in midfield, alongside Folarin Balogun up front, making them a potent attack.
In stark contrast, Lyon’s recent performances have been underwhelming, with players missing due to fatigue and injuries. They face a challenging week ahead, having struggled for a win in their last games, including a disappointing draw against struggling Le Havre.
MY PREDICTION: Lyon 1 – 2 AS Monaco. With momentum on their side and confidence high, I believe Monaco will continue their winning streak at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday.

A Dutch derby with major implications
Feyenoord vs. Ajax
Dutch Eredivisie, Matchday 28
Kickoff: Sunday, 8:30 a.m. ET
This Sunday, the eagerly anticipated De Klassieker will unfold as Feyenoord faces Ajax. Feyenoord sits in second place, just five points ahead of a fourth-placed Ajax, who are eager to clinch a top-three finish.
Ajax, navigating a challenging season, has now cycled through three managers, recently appointing Oscar Garcia, who achieved a convincing 4-0 victory in his first match in charge. Meanwhile, Feyenoord, coached by former star Robin van Persie, shows inconsistent form but has the potential to shine.
Feyenoord’s lineup strong with talents like the prolific Ayase Ueda leading the attack alongside Raheem Sterling, who is seeking to regain his peak form after struggles at Chelsea.
For Ajax, consistency is key as they push for a top-three finish while capitalizing on their youth talent like Mika Godts, a standout performer with flair.
MY PREDICTION: Feyenoord 2 – 2 Ajax. With historical rivalries and both teams’ current challenges, it’s a tough match to call, and given Ajax’s home record, I’m inclined to predict a thrilling draw.
