CAGLIARI, Italy — Napoli secured a 1-0 victory against Cagliari on Friday, moving into second place in Serie A.

A goal by Scott McTominay just 90 seconds into the match proved to be the game-winner in a matchup that Napoli thoroughly controlled.

The Scotland international found the net by tapping in a loose ball after a right-side cross fell to him, and Napoli’s lead went unchallenged as Cagliari failed to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

This victory marks the fourth consecutive win for Antonio Conte’s side.

The result pushes Napoli two points ahead of third-placed AC Milan, who are set to face Torino on Saturday. Meanwhile, league leaders Inter Milan will take on Fiorentina on Sunday.

Cagliari’s winless streak now extends to seven matches, a run dating back to late January. They remain in 15th place, but with only eight matches left in the season, they risk slipping into the relegation zone. Currently, they are six points clear of the drop, but the five teams below them all have a game in hand.

In another positive development for Conte, Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne played a full 90 minutes for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury last October.
