Jiménez in Tears After…

LONDON — Striker Raúl Jiménez of Mexico was emotional on Saturday after netting his first goal following the passing of his father last week.

He scored a penalty to help secure a 3-1 victory for Fulham against Burnley in the Premier League, dropping to his knees and gesturing skyward with both hands after the goal.

Emotional after the moment, Jiménez was seen wiping away tears as he made his way back to the center circle following the match.

Following the goal, Jiménez received warm embraces from his Fulham teammates, including fellow striker Rodrigo Muniz and manager Marco Silva.

The death of his father, Raúl Jiménez Vega, was confirmed by Mexico’s soccer federation on March 13.

Jiménez has an impressive record, having converted all 14 penalties he has taken in the Premier League, the highest number of successful penalties without a miss in the league’s history.

“Raúl was so composed in that moment, so calm, and that’s why he holds the penalty record in the Premier League,” said Fulham manager Marco Silva in a post-match press conference.

Jiménez has also played in the Premier League for Wolverhampton.
