Antoine Griezmann is poised to agree to a two-year contract with an optional third year with Orlando City SC, according to multiple sources who spoke to ESPN on Sunday.
The Atlético Madrid forward departed for Orlando on Sunday night following his team’s 3-2 derby defeat to Real Madrid to finalize the transfer. Griezmann is expected to start playing for the MLS club in July.
Griezmann will remain with Atlético until the conclusion of the current season, which includes a Champions League quarterfinal match against Barcelona and a Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad.
The former France international, a member of the 2018 World Cup-winning squad, retired from international football in 2024.
In February, ESPN reported that Griezmann was in discussions about a potential move to Orlando before the La Liga season ended, but sources indicated he opted to postpone the transfer to complete the season with Atlético.
Griezmann holds the record as Atlético’s all-time leading scorer with 210 goals, though he has yet to win a major trophy with manager Diego Simeone’s side.
Simeone has consistently stated that he would support any choice made by Griezmann, a long-time figure at Atlético Madrid. Griezmann’s current contract with the club is valid until 2027.
The summer transfer window for Major League Soccer opens on July 13.
