Sevilla Parts Ways with…

MADRID — Sevilla confirmed on Monday the dismissal of Argentine coach Matías Almeyda following a disappointing performance in LaLiga over the weekend.

The club announced Almeyda’s departure after the team suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Valencia on Saturday. They expressed gratitude for his contributions and professionalism and wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Almeyda departs with Sevilla positioned 15th in the league, merely three points above the relegation zone following 29 matches.

The team has struggled recently, recording just one win in their last eight outings—a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe last month.

Before joining Sevilla in June, Almeyda had managed the San Jose Earthquakes in MLS and AEK Athens in Greece. During his tenure with Sevilla, he oversaw 32 matches across all competitions, achieving 10 wins, 7 draws, and 15 losses.

On Saturday, Almeyda was also serving his fifth game of suspension for confronting match officials during a February league match against Alaves.

Sevilla’s upcoming match is scheduled against last-place Oviedo on April 5.
