Salah Set to Depart…

Mohamed Salah is set to depart Liverpool at the conclusion of the current season, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. After nine extraordinary years at Anfield, Salah has cemented his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.

Liverpool confirmed that Salah, 33, has “reached an agreement” to leave the club a year before his contract was set to expire.

According to sources, the deal will facilitate Salah’s departure on a free transfer.

“Mohamed Salah will conclude his remarkable journey with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” stated the club.

“The forward has come to an agreement with the Reds that allows him to close out a sensational nine-year stint at Anfield.

“Salah wished to share this announcement with the supporters as soon as possible to ensure transparency regarding his future, out of respect and appreciation for them.”

The Egyptian winger has scored 255 goals in 435 matches, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, trailing only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285). He is also fourth among the Premier League’s all-time top scorers with 191 goals.

Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has helped secure eight major trophies for Liverpool, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

“I never anticipated how profoundly this club, this city, and these people would become a part of my life,” Salah expressed in a video showcasing his Liverpool highlights shared on X.

“Liverpool is more than just a football club; it embodies passion, history, and spirit. It’s difficult to explain to anyone outside of this club. We’ve celebrated victories, claimed the most prestigious trophies, and faced challenges together. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has been part of this club during my years here, especially my teammates, both past and present.

“To the fans, words cannot express my appreciation. Your unwavering support during the best moments of my career and your loyalty during tougher times are memories I will cherish forever.

“Parting ways is never easy. You have given me the best years of my life. I will always consider myself one of you. This club will remain my home, for me and my family.”

Salah had signed a two-year contract extension last April, securing his place at the club until 2026-27, following his standout performance in the team’s journey to a record-tying 20th English league title.

However, his performance has dipped this season, leading to his being benched for three consecutive matches late last year. Salah subsequently gave a candid interview, accusing the club of throwing him “under the bus” during a challenging patch.

He indicated a lack of connection with manager Arne Slot and cast doubt on his future with the club as the January transfer window approached. He was also excluded from the squad for a Champions League match against Inter Milan.

Though Salah was reintroduced to the squad after the Africa Cup of Nations, he has yet to regain the form that once made him the Premier League‘s top scorer on four occasions.

Liverpool will resume their season following the international break with an FA Cup quarterfinal match against Manchester City, along with an encounter with Paris Saint-Germain in the last eight of the Champions League.

The club still has seven Premier League matches remaining as it fights for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

“With much left to accomplish this season, Salah is focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for Liverpool,” the club stated, “and a full celebration of his legacy and accomplishments will take place later in the year as he prepares to bid farewell to Anfield.”
