Roy Hodgson Appointed…

Roy Hodgson, the former manager of the England national team, is returning to football at the age of 78 as the new interim head coach of Bristol City.

A statement from the club announced that Hodgson will lead the team through to the end of the season following the dismissal of Gerhard Struber.

Hodgson has not managed a team since leaving Crystal Palace in February 2024.

During his tenure as England’s manager, he led the team through two European Championships and the 2014 World Cup.

His extensive coaching career includes roles with clubs such as Liverpool, Fulham, and Inter Milan.

This marks Hodgson’s return to Bristol City, where he served as manager for four months in 1982, achieving a record of three wins in 21 matches.

His first challenge with Bristol City will be an away match against Charlton Athletic on April 3, nearly 44 years after his last match in charge.

“I’ve had very positive discussions with the Board, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to assist the club until the season concludes,” Hodgson commented.

“We’ll get to work immediately and aim for a strong performance this Good Friday.”

Bristol City currently sits at 16th place in the Championship, having not secured a win in the league since February 24.

The managerial change comes following a disappointing stretch since mid-February, which saw the team’s playoff ambitions fade, leaving them 12 points behind sixth place.

Fortunately for Hodgson and Bristol City, they maintain an 11-point buffer above the relegation zone with seven matches left in the season.
