Coach Addo Sacked by Ghana…

ACCRA, Ghana — Otto Addo has parted ways with his role as head coach of the Ghana national soccer team, just 72 days prior to their first match in the World Cup.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the immediate termination of Otto Addo as head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars),” the organization stated in a release on their website Monday.

No additional information was provided regarding Addo’s successor or the reasons for his dismissal.

Addo’s termination follows a 2-1 defeat against Germany in Stuttgart on Monday. This loss comes on the heels of another setback, a 5-1 defeat to Austria last Friday, marking four consecutive friendly losses for the team.

This was Addo’s second tenure as head coach, having previously been released from his position at Borussia Dortmund in March 2024, where he had been working in talent development. He first took over as Ghana’s interim coach in 2022, leading the team during the World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana achieved a victory over South Korea but ultimately exited in the group stage.

During his playing career, Addo, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, won the Bundesliga title with Dortmund and represented Ghana at the 2006 World Cup.

Ghana is set to compete in the World Cup for the fifth time and will face Croatia, England, and Panama in Group L. The team’s opening match will take place on June 17 against Panama in Toronto.
