Leeds United secured a crucial 2-1 victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United, moving them six points clear of the relegation zone and marking their second away win of the season in the Premier League.
Noah Okafor netted two goals within the first half-hour, sending the Leeds supporters into a frenzy. However, the match turned when Lisandro Martínez received a red card just 11 minutes into the second half due to a VAR decision for pulling on Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s hair.
This victory marked Leeds’ first league win at Old Trafford since 1981 and their first triumph against Manchester United since the FA Cup clash in 2010.
Head coach Daniel Farke expressed his pride, stating, “I’m incredibly proud, as this is our first league win at Old Trafford and our first in nearly four decades. It feels fantastic. We’re under pressure now, and it’s a critical moment for us.”
Farke also noted, “We missed several chances early on to seal the win, but we had to fight hard, and we definitely deserved this victory.”
Looking ahead, Leeds will host Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday, where they have the opportunity to extend their lead over the relegation zone to nine points. This win puts them six points clear of the 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who fell to Sunderland on Sunday.
Farke added, “We’re working hard to shed the narrative that ‘Leeds are falling apart again.’ Under pressure, we seem to deliver results. While we’re proud of this win, we must remain grounded and focused on our goals.”
Despite being a man down, United fought back in the second half, with Casemiro scoring in the 59th minute, but Leeds managed to maintain their lead for their first league victory at Old Trafford in 45 years.
This defeat marked United’s first home loss under Carrick, ending a streak of five consecutive wins.
