Bournemouth is reportedly nearing an agreement with Marco Rose to become their new manager, sources have informed ESPN.

Andoni Iraola announced on Monday that he would step down from his position at Bournemouth at the end of the current season. Sources revealed that both Rose and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna are being considered as potential successors.

While McKenna is under contract until 2028, Rose is available after departing RB Leipzig last year. Bournemouth management holds both coaches in high regard, with Rose emerging as the leading candidate.

Sources indicate that the club is currently negotiating personal terms with Rose, who boasts extensive coaching experience with RB Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and Leipzig.

Iraola joined Bournemouth in June 2023 and has garnered praise for his management. He stated on Friday that he is uncertain about his next steps but has not secured another position yet. The 43-year-old has been mentioned as a candidate for the soon-to-be-open job at Athletic Club in Bilbao, alongside interest from other Premier League clubs.

“The decision wasn’t easy,” Iraola remarked on Friday. “I have been in discussions with the club about the situation, and they knew this outcome was possible. There isn’t one primary reason for this decision. I chose to step back to maintain the satisfaction I’ve derived from my time here over the past three seasons.”

“We are human, and sometimes we need a change, so I felt this was the right moment to conclude a journey that has been truly special for me.”

At 49, Rose favors an aggressive, high-pressing gameplay, which aligns with Bournemouth’s style and appeals to the club’s management. His experience coaching a Champions League team is seen as an asset, and hopes are high that an agreement will be reached soon.
