Liam Rosenior is confident that he still has the full backing of Chelsea‘s ownership as he strives to revive the club’s faltering push for Champions League qualification.
The Blues find themselves seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League, having suffered four consecutive losses without finding the net.
After Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, boos filled the air, and some supporters protested against the ownership group, BlueCo, before the match.
Behdad Eghbali, co-owner of Chelsea, affirmed last week that the club continues to support Rosenior and is hopeful for long-term success with him at the helm.
When asked if he felt that support, Rosenior, who took over from Enzo Maresca in January, responded, “One hundred percent. They have been incredibly supportive in our daily interactions and have shown great commitment to me and the team. We agree on the immediate need to win games, but that does not detract from our goal of achieving sustainable success for the club in the long run.”
Chelsea will attempt to end their worrying decline when they face ninth-placed Brighton on Tuesday.
With only three points separating Chelsea from 12th-placed Fulham, Rosenior’s squad risks missing out on European competition entirely.
“We’ve made things challenging for ourselves,” he acknowledged regarding their Champions League hopes. “We need to be honest and realistic about it.”
“However, we cannot afford to give up. We must keep pushing forward. It’s essential that we go into the match against Brighton with the same energy, intensity, and engagement that I observed against Manchester United, which was commendable. But we need to improve defensively and seize the opportunities we create. We must be more clinical and ruthless in both ends of the pitch.”
