Sergio Ramos, former defender for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, is anticipating updates soon regarding his bid to acquire his boyhood club, Sevilla.
According to recent reports, Ramos is leading a consortium, with financial backing from Five Eleven Capital, aimed at taking over the struggling LaLiga club. The 40-year-old has made notable strides in the acquisition process, which began in late 2025.
Speaking about the potential takeover at an event in Seville, Ramos stated: “I believe there will be some developments in the coming weeks or months, and we are hopeful it will be the news we all desire. Things are progressing well.”
Ramos, who has not officially announced his retirement after leaving Mexican side Rayados de Monterrey last December, remarked: “I’m feeling great. Right now, I’m spending quality time with my family and truly enjoying it.”
– Sevilla is in a precarious position, battling relegation. Can Sergio Ramos be their savior?
The initiative led by Ramos has sparked enthusiasm among Sevilla fans, who are optimistic about a change in management after years of instability both on and off the pitch.
This season has been challenging for Sevilla, who narrowly avoided relegation last campaign. So far, they have recorded nine wins and 15 losses in 31 league matches, currently sitting two places and two points above the relegation zone with seven games left to play.
Notable figures from the club’s past, including former sporting director Monchi, have expressed their support for Ramos’s initiative, lending credibility to the project.
If the acquisition is successful, Ramos will have to retire from professional football or continue playing outside Spain, as league regulations prevent active players from holding an ownership stake in a club within the same league.
A 2010 World Cup champion and a two-time European Champion with Spain, Ramos began his career in Sevilla’s youth academy, making his first team debut in 2004.
He spent one year with the club before transferring to Real Madrid in August 2005, returned for a brief period in the 2023-24 season, and then signed with Monterrey in February 2025.
