Forest Green Rovers refuted claims that a fan from Morecambe was expelled from their stadium on Saturday for consuming a bacon sandwich.
The National League club, which proudly identifies as the world’s first fully vegan football team, certified by the Vegan Society in 2017, addressed a viral video showing an away supporter being escorted out for allegedly eating meat in the New Lawn Stadium.
The matchday offerings usually include Quorn pies, vegan pizzas, salads, and sweet potato fries.
In a post on X on Sunday, titled ‘Club statement on baconbuttygate,’ the club stated: “We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday. Contrary to the opinions on social media, the ejection was not related to bacon sandwiches but rather a case of ‘over exuberance’ on the final day of the season. After multiple warnings, the stewards had no choice but to escort the individual from the premises.”
