NEW YORK — In a move to bring the thrill of the World Cup to fans without the financial burden of ticket prices, New York City announced a series of free events on Monday.
The festivities will take place in all five boroughs, featuring watch parties and additional activities. Locations include Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, Brooklyn Bridge Park, a shopping center near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, and a minor league baseball stadium in Staten Island.
Additionally, a separate fan gathering at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey—home of the New York Red Bulls—will have a $10 entry fee.
World Cup matches are set to be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where using public transit to reach the venue could cost fans up to $150.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, an avid soccer fan, made the announcement alongside New York Governor Kathy Hochul, also a Democrat.
“Every fan should have the opportunity to enjoy the greatest tournament on Earth without straining their finances,” said Mamdani.
Similar fan events are being organized in other cities hosting the World Cup.
