Carrick: United shouldnt…

Michael Carrick has stated that Manchester United should not “over celebrate” their achievement of reaching the Champions League following their 2-1 victory against Brentford, which brings the club close to returning to Europe’s premier competition.

United require just two more points from their remaining four matches to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League, a tournament they haven’t participated in since the 2023-2024 season.

However, Carrick is determined to stay level-headed, regardless of when they officially seal their qualification.

“We’ve put ourselves in a strong position and given ourselves a great opportunity,” he noted. “This league is tough, and it’s difficult to achieve wins, as seen throughout. The number of victories we’ve accumulated is commendable, and the lads deserve recognition for their efforts.”

“While the Champions League is significant, it’s not something we should celebrate excessively.”

“Our goal is to finish high in the league and continue challenging for more points, ensuring our season doesn’t draw to a close prematurely.”

The goals for United against Brentford came from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko.

Fans at Old Trafford chanted “one more year” for Casemiro after he netted his ninth goal of the season, but Carrick affirmed that there will be no change regarding his decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

“The situation is clear,” Carrick asserted. “From both sides, there is clarity, which has likely aided the situation. It means a lot to him, and he deserves credit for his commitment and the significant contributions he has made for us.”
