Wrexham director Shaun Harvey stated that if the club achieves promotion to the Premier League this season, it would mark “the greatest sports story ever.”
The Red Dragons find themselves in a crucial position as they hold the last Championship playoff spot heading into Saturday’s decisive match against Middlesbrough.
They are separated from seventh-placed Hull only by goal difference, with Derby also still in contention for a top-six finish. The team, co-owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion.

“If we make it to the playoffs on Saturday, we could achieve back-to-back-to-back-to-back promotions,” Harvey said at SportsPro London.
“If we pull this off, as many have pointed out, it would truly be the greatest sports story ever. There’s no script, just a story waiting to be told.”
“It’s a genuine narrative, and that authenticity makes Wrexham relatable to countless dreamers out there.”
However, he emphasized that not making the playoffs should not be viewed as a failure, considering that Reynolds and McElhenney have elevated Wrexham from the National League to the brink of the Premier League in just five years.
“This is our moment; we have one game left in the league season,” Harvey noted. “To use Alex Ferguson’s famous term, it’s definitely squeaky bum time. Will we make it or not? Either way, there’s a story to tell.”
“Because regardless of the outcome, we’ve progressed from a non-league team to the top team in Wales based on league standings. We’ve achieved our highest-ever league position, and the women’s team has also clinched the league title and will compete in the Champions League.”
“Given the circumstances, our season should be seen as one where we ‘almost made it,’ rather than one where we ‘just missed out.’ While that’s a subtle distinction, the reality is we have no right to achieve what we’ve accomplished this season.”
