Wrexham denied…

Wrexham experienced heartbreak in their playoff quest on Saturday, overtaken by promotion contenders Hull City on a thrilling final day of the Championship season.

Starting the day within the top six on goal difference, the Welsh club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, drew 2-2 at home against Middlesbrough. This outcome allowed Hull City to secure a 2-1 victory over Norwich City, resulting in Wrexham missing out on playoff qualification by just two points.

With the goal of achieving a fourth consecutive promotion to play in the Premier League next season, Wrexham finished in seventh place in the Championship standings.

At STōK Cae Ras, a thrilling first half saw Wrexham come from behind to briefly take the lead against Middlesbrough, only for David Strelec‘s goal in the 43rd minute to level the score at halftime. The second half was tightly contested, with both teams missing key opportunities; Wrexham’s Ollie Rathbone had his effort saved early on, and Josh Windass shot over at a crucial moment later in the match.

Wrexham’s frustration was heightened when Hull’s winning goal, netted by Ollie McBurnie in the 67th minute, appeared to be close to being ruled offside.
