PAMPLONA, Spain — Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is set to exchange his usual matchday routine for an evening of magic on Sunday, as he awaits news on whether his team will secure the LaLiga title this weekend.
Barcelona triumphed 2-1 over Osasuna on Saturday, pushing them 14 points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table and putting them on the verge of clinching back-to-back championships under Flick’s leadership.
The title could be theirs as early as Sunday if Madrid doesn’t win against Espanyol, but Flick has made it clear that he won’t be tuning in to check the score.
Instead, he has plans to enjoy a night with the famed Spanish illusionist El Mago Pop in Barcelona.
“Believe me, I won’t be watching Madrid,” Flick remarked during the post-match press conference.
“I would never do that. It’s not for me. I might go to see El Mago Pop with my wife. I think it’s the final day [on Sunday].
“I’ll keep an eye on our WhatsApp group for updates. If something happens, I’ll know it’s a positive outcome. I just have to wait.”
Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres in the last ten minutes secured the three points for Barça in Pamplona on Saturday.
Osasuna’s Raul García pulled one back in the 88th minute, setting up a nervous finish, but Barça ultimately maintained their lead, marking their tenth consecutive win in LaLiga.
Despite this crucial victory, and with the title within reach, Flick emphasized that his team doesn’t see themselves as champions just yet.
