In another match in the National Women’s Soccer League, the Chicago Stars faced a 2-0 defeat at home against Portland Thorns FC.

This match marked the first encounter between the latest expansion teams in the NWSL. The league is set to expand further, with new teams in Atlanta and Columbus anticipated to take the field in 2028.
In the match in Portland, U.S. forward Olivia Moultrie made history as the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in NWSL, contributing a goal and an assist.
Moultrie scored first, receiving an assist from Pietra Tordin in the 17th minute. Both players currently have six goal contributions this season.
Despite the Chicago Stars (2-6-0) dominating possession and shots in the second half, it was the Thorns who struck again. In the 89th minute, Moultrie delivered a perfect long pass to substitute Reilyn Turner, who scored into an empty net after beating goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
Mackenzie Arnold secured her third clean sheet of the season with four saves, helping Portland (6-1-1) maintain the top position in the league standings.
