Barcelona needs to generate funds by selling key players like Ferran Torres, Jules Koundé, and potentially Raphinha in order to invest in new signings that coach Hansi Flick has requested for this summer, according to various sources consulted by ESPN.
Barcelona is positioned to clinch consecutive LaLiga titles under Flick if they avoid a loss against Real Madrid this weekend. However, the club recognizes the need to refresh their squad as they aim for their first Champions League title since 2015.
As previously reported by ESPN, Barcelona is looking to bring in a striker and a center-back this summer, along with another winger and possibly an additional forward if both Robert Lewandowski and Torres depart.
One source indicated to ESPN that the club aims to raise around €100 million ($118 million) through player sales to fund the acquisitions they desire, which could result in the departure of some vital squad members.
Marc Casadó and Ansu Fati, currently on loan to AS Monaco, are both likely to depart, but Barcelona will face tough choices regarding the contracts of other players to generate the necessary funds for reinvestment.
Reports suggest that Barcelona is open to offers for Torres and Koundé.
Despite netting 20 goals this season, ESPN disclosed in March that Barcelona is willing to consider letting Torres go, especially since his contract will expire next summer, potentially allowing him to leave for free if he doesn’t sign an extension.
Additionally, club sources have indicated that they would consider offers for Koundé, given his inconsistent performances and interest from several Premier League teams.
Raphinha’s situation is more intricate. The Brazilian is a standout player, and Flick is a significant supporter of him.
However, turning 30 in December, he has received substantial offers from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, as he has previously mentioned.
Allowing the former Leeds United winger to leave isn’t part of Barcelona’s initial summer plans, but sources have not ruled out his exit if a lucrative offer arises and if he is willing to leave to aid in the squad’s short-to-medium-term rebuilding effort.
As previously revealed by ESPN, Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez and Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni are among Barcelona’s primary targets this summer.
However, given the uncertainty surrounding the financial situation, the Catalan club is also considering alternative options, which include Chelsea‘s Brazilian attacker João Pedro.
