Manchester City head coach Andree Jeglertz expressed his excitement for the future after his team clinched the Women’s Super League title for the first time since 2016.
A 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Brighton confirmed that City, as league leaders, could no longer be overtaken, allowing them to celebrate their impressive title triumph.
After finishing fourth last season and trailing the winners, Chelsea, by 17 points, Jeglertz faced a difficult start to his tenure with a debut defeat in September. However, the new champions rebounded magnificently, winning 17 out of their next 20 matches before gathering at City Football Academy to watch as Arsenal faltered.
Jeglertz commented on the official club website, stating, “Guiding this team to the WSL title is a memory I will always treasure. The players have approached each challenge with determination and have been a joy to coach this season. They have pulled together during both the highs and lows, consistently finding ways to win—an attribute of true champions.”
He added, “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication, belief, and hard work of my colleagues, the players, and our fans. Everyone involved should take pride in this moment. However, this is not the end – there’s still much to strive for this season and in the future. I’m thrilled about what lies ahead for this extraordinary group and our fantastic club.”
City’s victory marks the end of Chelsea’s six-year title reign and represents a remarkable turnaround for the club after the departure of long-serving manager Gareth Taylor midway through last season.
Captain Alex Greenwood reflected, “Leading this incredible team to the WSL title is one of the proudest moments of my career and an honor I’ll always cherish. Every player and staff member has played a critical role in achieving this, and I’m grateful to share this moment with them and our wonderful fans, who have supported us tirelessly.”
She continued, “This success stems from ten months of hard work both on and off the field. We always believed in our potential to win the WSL, but nothing was handed to us—it’s the result of a remarkable team effort and bond that is truly indescribable. While this is a special occasion, it’s just the beginning. This club must consistently compete for top honors in England and Europe, and we know that many more incredible days are ahead!”
Manchester City will conclude their WSL season with a home match against West Ham on May 16.
