James Rodríguez will leave Minnesota United FC after the game on Wednesday, May 13, to join the Colombian national team camp in preparation for the World Cup, according to sources at ESPN.

Rodríguez’s appearance against the Colorado Rapids will mark his final official match with Minnesota under his current contract. He initially joined the club in February, signing a short-term agreement lasting until June 2026, with an option extending to December 2026.

It remains uncertain whether Minnesota will opt to take up the extension until December 2026.

Having participated in Minnesota’s recent 2-2 draw with Austin FC, Rodríguez confirmed he does not plan to retire after the World Cup, dispelling rumors surrounding his future in soccer.

“Only I know how long I can continue playing. When the time comes, I’ll announce it, but I feel I still have several years ahead of me. All those rumors are unfounded,” he stated following the match against Austin.

Next, he will focus on training with the national team as Colombia prepares to compete against Portugal, Uzbekistan, and DR Congo in Group K of the World Cup. Colombia’s opening match will be against DR Congo on June 17 in Mexico City.

“I want to focus on what lies ahead. I have reached a certain age and need to consider everything coming up,” Rodríguez expressed on Sunday. “I believe it will be positive.”

“If I train diligently every day and take care of my body, I can manage to play 30, 40 minutes, or even the entire game. I must be prepared.”

Since his arrival at Minnesota United in February, Rodríguez has participated in five matches, contributing two assists over 130 minutes of play. He will miss two upcoming games against New England and Real Salt Lake while MLS takes a break for the World Cup.
