Inter Milan clinch Italian…

ROME — Inter Milan has solidified its status as the powerhouse of Italian football by clinching both the league and cup titles for the first time since 2010.

Inter triumphed over Lazio with a score of 2-0 on Wednesday, winning the Italian Cup and adding it to the Serie A title they secured with three matches remaining in the season.

It marks the first time since José Mourinho guided Inter to a treble in 2010, which included the Champions League, that the club has achieved both the league and cup in a single season.

Inter’s current head coach, Christian Chivu, who previously helped Parma avoid relegation last season, was a member of the 2010 squad.

After the final, Inter captain Lautaro Martínez praised Chivu, stating, “What mark would I give Chivu? Ten out of 10.”

Chivu is in his inaugural season at Inter after taking over from Simone Inzaghi, who departed following a disappointing conclusion to the previous season, during which Inter finished just one point shy of Serie A champion Napoli, lost in the semifinals of the Italian Cup, and suffered a historic 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

“Achieving the double is incredibly important,” Lautaro remarked. “It wasn’t easy to bounce back after last year, but we managed to put together a fantastic season in terms of performances, results, and intensity.”

“I’m thrilled to conclude the season with another trophy that holds significant value for us.”

Lazio contributed to their own demise on Wednesday by conceding both goals to Inter.

Inter took the lead in the 14th minute when Federico Dimarco delivered a corner kick from the right, which was accidentally headed into the net by Lazio defender Adam Marusic.

The second goal came when Lazio’s Nuno Tavares was dispossessed by Denzel Dumfries just outside the penalty area. Dumfries then cut inside and selflessly set up Lautaro, who easily tapped the ball into an empty net from three yards.

Just days earlier, Inter had defeated Lazio 3-0 in a Serie A match, serving as a preview to Wednesday’s cup final held in the same Roman stadium.
