Scally Set for Club…

United States defender Joe Scally is set to make a decision regarding his club future following this summer’s World Cup.

At 23, Scally has been with Borussia Monchengladbach since January 2021, recently surpassing 150 appearances for the club in the Bundesliga. With his contract expiring next summer, sources have indicated consistent interest from clubs in the Premier League and Serie A.

“I love the club,” Scally stated. “But who knows what the future holds? A player must remain open-minded.”

He previously expressed a desire to play in a different league at some stage in his career.

“This summer will be exciting with the World Cup, and that’s my current focus. Afterward, we’ll see,” he mentioned.

Scally has represented the USMNT 24 times and aims to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-man squad. He has been a reliable player for Gladbach since his arrival, though last season he struggled to secure a spot in Pochettino’s lineup. He missed selection for last summer’s Gold Cup, but was recalled for matches against Paraguay, Uruguay, Belgium, and Portugal.

“Playing well consistently is crucial for us,” Scally remarked. “That’s fundamental for securing my place at the World Cup.”

“I maintain a great relationship with the coach, who emphasizes the importance of performing well at my club and getting playtime. I believe that focus is vital to ensure I’m in the best shape for the World Cup.”

Before focusing on the World Cup, Scally has one last match this season with Gladbach, facing Hoffenheim at home. It has been a challenging season for the club, but they appear poised for a mid-table finish.

“The season had its ups and downs,” Scally noted. “We were always near the relegation zone, but as players, we never let it dominate our thoughts. We believed in our quality to prevent slipping into a relegation battle.”

“Reaching 150 appearances is significant for me. It reflects the hard work and various challenges I’ve faced to get here, and I am genuinely proud of it. Achievements don’t come without effort, and I believe that’s where it all stems from.”
