Striker Kerr Set to Depart…

Striker Sam Kerr will depart Chelsea at the conclusion of the season when her contract comes to an end.

The Australian forward is just one goal away from tying Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, Fran Kirby, having scored 115 goals in 157 matches since her arrival in January 2020.

Kerr has been a pivotal player during a successful period for the Blues, earning the Women’s Super League Golden Boot twice and contributing to five WSL titles, three Women’s FA Cups, and three League Cups.

“As I look back on my time at Chelsea, preparing to say goodbye, I feel a sense of joy,” the 32-year-old expressed on the club’s website.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have played for this club over the past six years and for the many trophies we’ve achieved together.”

However, Kerr’s journey hasn’t been without challenges; she endured a lengthy 20-month recovery following a knee ligament injury sustained in January 2024.

Kerr, who serves as the captain of the Australian national team, is anticipated to play her final match for Chelsea this Saturday against Manchester United.

This season, she has netted 16 goals, establishing herself as Chelsea’s top scorer in the WSL. The club remarked, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sam for her tremendous contributions to our success on the field and her role in our growth off it. We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career.”
