Sources have informed ESPN that Manchester United is nearing an agreement with Michael Carrick to appoint him as the club’s permanent head coach.
Negotiations with the 44-year-old have advanced swiftly since United officials recognized Carrick’s potential to continue in the role.
There’s optimism that an official announcement could be made before the last home match of the season against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday.
This week, Carrick’s representatives have been in Manchester to finalize the agreement.
The former United midfielder is expected to sign a two-year contract extending until June 2028, with the possibility of an additional year.
United is also looking to keep key assistants Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate, who joined Carrick when he took over as caretaker in January, as part of his coaching staff.
Carrick has enjoyed success, winning 10 out of 15 matches in charge, which has helped guide United back into the Champions League.
His impressive performance has made him the obvious choice to succeed Ruben Amorim as the next permanent manager.
Carrick has already participated in planning sessions for the upcoming season as the club aims to enhance their squad ahead of their return to European competition.
