Manchester City kept their dreams of a domestic treble alive thanks to a stunning second-half goal from Antoine Semenyo>, which secured a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium in London.
A moment of brilliant improvisation was required to break down a disciplined Chelsea defense that had effectively stifled City’s attack. Semenyo’s goal, scored with just 18 minutes left in the match, will likely be remembered as one of the best of his career.
Bernardo Silva set up Erling Haaland, who found Semenyo tightly marked by Levi Colwill. In a flash of creativity, Semenyo cleverly allowed the ball to pass through his legs, then used a deliberate touch with his right boot to guide it past Robert Sánchez into the corner of the net.
Chelsea had opportunities to give interim manager Calum McFarlane a memorable moment, particularly when Enzo Fernández narrowly missed scoring from close range.
City’s focus now shifts to the Premier League title race as they prepare for an away match against Bournemouth on Tuesday. If this season marks Pep Guardiola’s final one in charge, he will leave having secured at least two trophies, following the Carabao Cup victory in March.

Chelsea managed to make the first half dull, deploying a defensive five-man line that effectively restricted City’s ability to create chances.
In fact, the first half was largely uneventful, with only a few notable moments. One occurred when Chelsea’s right-back position became chaotic; Reece James lost possession under pressure from Haaland, who surged into the box but failed to find a target with his cross.
Haaland later scored, but it was disallowed due to an offside call against Matheus Nunes
before the delivery.
Guardiola expressed frustration when Fernández narrowly avoided a red card for a questionable two-footed tackle on Silva. Haaland finally registered the first serious attempt at goal just before halftime, breaking behind Wesley Fofana and hitting a shot straight at Sánchez.
It was predictable to see the ineffective Omar Marmoush replaced at halftime, with Rayan Cherki entering the fray to attempt to penetrate Chelsea’s solid defense.
Semenyo should have given City the lead shortly after the break, but he headed a perfect cross from Nico O’Reilly just over the bar.
The match continued to feel like it would be decided by a single moment of brilliance, which arrived in the 72nd minute when Semenyo’s flick, from Haaland’s accurate cross, finally penetrated Chelsea’s defense.
Fernández almost responded immediately, glancing Colwill’s header onto the roof of James Trafford‘s goal. That was Chelsea’s best chance to equalize, but they wouldn’t have another opportunity.
Cherki was thwarted by a fantastic save from Sánchez after Chelsea squandered possession in their defensive third. A second goal for City would have been a more accurate reflection of their dominance.
