Jamie Carragher has reignited his feud with Mohamed Salah, calling the departing striker “selfish” for criticizing Liverpool‘s playing style on social media.
The Egypt international, who is set to make his final appearance for Liverpool in their season finale against Brentford this weekend, remarked that the club must return to their “heavy metal” football style, which many interpreted as a critique of head coach Arne Slot’s tactics.
Carragher, who had previously critiqued Salah following the forward’s comments about feeling “thrown under the bus” by Liverpool and the breakdown of his relationship with Slot after a 3-3 draw with Leeds, shared his thoughts on Salah’s latest remarks during an interview with Sky Sports.

“I’m not surprised,” Carragher stated. “I predicted earlier that he would stir up controversy before the end of the season, much like Ronaldo did on his departure from Manchester United. I initially thought it might come after the season concluded, but he didn’t wait.”
“Less than two years ago, I labeled him selfish for giving an interview, and that sentiment still applies. Liverpool is facing a critical week. Their Champions League qualification is not yet secured, and the focus should be on the team, not individual players.”
“It’s crucial that Liverpool secures their spot in the Champions League, but his comments don’t reflect well on him,” Carragher added.
Salah’s remarks followed Liverpool’s disappointing 4-2 loss to Aston Villa, which left them in fifth place in the Premier League standings and increased scrutiny on Slot’s role as head coach.
“Losing yet again this season was incredibly painful and our fans deserve better,” Salah expressed in a post on X.
“I want Liverpool to return to being the intense, attacking team that others fear and the squad that wins trophies. That’s the style of football I excel at, and it’s the identity that we need to reclaim and maintain.”
“This style can’t be up for debate; anyone who joins this club needs to adapt to it.”
Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney suggested that Slot should consider benching Salah for his last game with Liverpool as a consequence of his comments.
