Neymar shared that he “cried for several hours” after learning he had made the Brazil World Cup team.
The Santos star hadn’t represented the national squad since suffering an ACL tear in his left knee last October, creating uncertainty regarding his participation in this summer’s tournament. However, Brazil’s coach Carlo Ancelotti included him in the final roster, as reported by media sources.
Neymar posted a video on social media capturing his reaction upon hearing the good news.

“Words can’t fully express the emotions I’m feeling,” Neymar stated, addressing his Santos teammates and club staff.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone here. This selection is not only for me but for all those who supported me, both on and off the pitch, ensuring our well-being, fitness, and nutrition. I admit to crying for several hours because achieving this milestone wasn’t easy.
“Those who have been with me through this journey understand the challenges we faced. However, upon hearing my name on the list, all the sacrifices and hard work were truly worthwhile.”
At 34 years old, Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals and will be participating in his fourth World Cup.
Fans of Brazil celebrated Neymar’s inclusion, which he acknowledged during his speech.
“Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in me,” he expressed. “I’m grateful for your support throughout my career. We’re in this together as we aim for Brazil’s sixth World Cup title.”
Brazil will face Panama in a friendly at the Maracanã stadium on May 31 before heading to the United States.
They will then meet Egypt in their final warm-up match on June 6 in Cleveland.
Brazil’s World Cup campaign kicks off against Morocco in New Jersey on June 13, followed by matches against Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
