Ibrahima Konaté is poised to exit Liverpool as a free agent this summer, according to sources speaking to ESPN.

Since November 2023, the French international has been in discussions with the club regarding a contract extension. In April, he indicated to reporters that there was a “significant possibility” he would remain at Anfield. Despite these negotiations, an agreement could not be reached, and Konaté is set to leave when his contract concludes on June 30.

Last summer, Liverpool enhanced their defensive line by acquiring Giovanni Leoni from Parma, although the young defender suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his debut in September. Additionally, Rennes center-back Jérémy Jacquet is expected to join the team this summer in a deal worth £60 million ($80 million).

Konaté made his move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £35 million ($47 million) in the summer of 2021. Over his time with the club, he has made 183 appearances and contributed to the team’s successes in winning the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the Premier League.

After Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Everton in April, Konaté commented: “There are many things people have said, but we have been in talks with the club for a long time and are close to an agreement. I think everyone hoped for this for as long as possible, but we are on the right track.”

“There’s definitely a good chance I’ll be here next season. This is what I have always wanted. I’m just waiting to finalize the contract. When everything is settled, you’ll have to ask [Liverpool sporting director] Richard [Hughes] what I told him in September and November, and he’ll clarify things for everyone.”
