Manchester City midfielder Rodri has stated that he will “wait until the World Cup is finished” to discuss his future amid speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid.
Rodri is under contract with the Premier League club until 2027, and has been mentioned by Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme as a potential signing ahead of his election battle with Florentino Pérez this weekend.
Having joined the Spain squad on Saturday for their World Cup training camp in Las Rozas, Madrid, he was cautious about discussing his future during Monday’s media day for the national team.
“Our focus is on the World Cup,” Rodri remarked. “As for my future, I’ll wait until the tournament concludes.”
Real Madrid is aiming to bolster its squad following a second consecutive season without securing a major title.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Riquelme described Rodri—who previously played for Villarreal and Atlético Madrid before joining City in 2019—as “the type of player who belongs at Real Madrid.”
“It’s common in football for players to be associated with certain clubs,” Rodri acknowledged on Monday. “My priority is to focus on my responsibilities as captain of the national team. My only mission is to help Spain win this World Cup, so I won’t get distracted by other matters. After the World Cup, we’ll see what happens.”

Rodri has faced injury challenges since a cruciate ligament tear in September 2024 but regained his position in the City lineup during the 2025-26 season, appearing in 21 Premier League matches.
“I’m feeling very happy and excited,” he shared. “I joked that this is the first time I’ve arrived feeling fresh, without too many games played. I’ve managed to overcome all the obstacles. While I’ll be entering the tournament with a bit less rhythm, I also have fewer matches to my name.”
