Chelsea has revealed their new home kit for the 2026-27 season, although many fans might have already caught a glimpse of it prior to its official launch.
In recent weeks, the Premier League club subtly teased the kit by having it showcased by various celebrities, including professional golfers, NBA stars, and Brazilian musicians.
Social media was abuzz with images of the new home shirt, notably when golfer and dedicated Chelsea supporter Justin Rose wore the unreleased design at the PGA Championship in Pennsylvania.
This was followed by a series of similar sightings featuring other notable figures associated with Chelsea, such as NBA player Jordan Poole, UFC fighter Chito Vera, American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, and Brazilian hip-hop artist MC Hariel, who wore the blue shirt during a performance at a music festival in São Paulo.
While this clandestine release strategy was playful and creative, some feel that the kit itself falls short of the excitement it generated.
The design draws inspiration from the rampant lion that has been a key feature of Chelsea’s crest since the 1950s.
The crest has been revamped with a more minimalist approach for the 2026-27 season, featuring only a silhouetted lion holding a golden staff on the chest, while the outer shield and text have been removed.
However, the complete roundel of Chelsea’s crest, which was originally designed by former manager Ted Drake upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 1953, is woven into the fabric of the shirt, enlarged and applied as a texture throughout.
Any additional detailing is done in a matching yellow-gold, encompassing the piping, logos, and Nike’s signature shoulder seams.
While it may not be regarded as a classic, Chelsea supporters are likely to appreciate the new look, particularly with the FIFA Club World Cup winners’ badge making its return to the shirt next season. Fair enough.
