Guillermo Hoyos will continue as the head coach of Inter Miami after the World Cup break in Major League Soccer, according to ESPN sources.

Hoyos took over from former coach Javier Mascherano in April, transitioning from his position as the sporting director of Inter Miami. Sources indicate that Hoyos was informed of this decision a couple of weeks ago, with the front office expressing their complete support for him.

Messi to captain Argentina in a record sixth World Cup

Since taking the reins, he has achieved an impressive record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw, collecting 19 out of 24 possible points while the team scored 26 goals over eight matches. Hoyos has recorded the best start for an Inter Miami coach in the first eight matches since the team’s inception in MLS in 2020.

Despite recent speculation linking the club to former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, sources have confirmed that Inter Miami has not reached out or shown interest in any other managerial candidates.

Hoyos has received acclaim for creating a positive atmosphere within the club, fostering strong communication and camaraderie, which has translated into successful performances on the field.

Having previously worked closely with players, particularly with captain Lionel Messi at Barcelona‘s prestigious La Masia academy over 20 years ago, Hoyos brings a wealth of experience from various leagues around the world, including Liga MX.

Inter Miami’s next match after the World Cup will be against the Chicago Fire at home on July 22.
