Barcelona is close to finalizing a loan agreement that will send American goalkeeper Diego Kochen to Lyngby Boldklub in Denmark for the upcoming season, according to a source speaking to ESPN.
At just 20 years old, Kochen is considered a promising talent at Barça, having progressed from the club’s La Masia academy. However, it has been determined that regular playing time with another team will better support his development.
For the upcoming season, Kochen is focused on gaining consistent playing time after a previous campaign where he alternated between first-team appearances and matches with the reserve squad.
Lyngby, which was recently promoted to the Danish Superliga, reached out to Barcelona in late February to discuss a loan deal. While there were other potentially more lucrative offers, Lyngby has assured Kochen a starting position, which he finds appealing.
Last week, ESPN reported that negotiations for the deal were progressing.
Born in Miami to Venezuelan and Peruvian parents, Kochen is keen on representing the United States, having been invited to train under Mauricio Pochettino. His contract with Barça runs through 2028.
Furthermore, Lyngby has connections in the U.S. via Union Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the Philadelphia Union, which acquired a 10% stake in the club in 2024.
