IRVINE, Calif. — United States men’s national team forward Christian Pulisic practiced separately during Monday’s session as he works to recover from a calf injury sustained in training last week.
Pulisic focused on individual exercises on a different field before moving to the gym for a workout on a stationary bike.
When asked about Pulisic’s condition, U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino simply replied, “Good,” without further details.
Pulisic’s situation has raised concerns after he had to exit Friday’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay at halftime.
He had a strong performance in the first half, contributing to both of the U.S. team’s opening goals. Following the match, he downplayed the seriousness of his injury.
“I just got a little kick in the first half, so I’m really hoping it’s nothing major,” Pulisic told Fox Sports. “I’m taking some precautions today, but I expect to be fine in the next few days.”
“It’s just the back of my leg, around the calf area. I’ve dealt with similar issues before and I’m remaining positive. I don’t think it’s anything serious,” he added.
Prior to Monday’s training, U.S. midfielder Tyler Adams expressed optimism that Pulisic would be fit for Friday’s match against Australia in Seattle.
“Christian will be ready, everyone. Let’s stay calm,” Adams stated. “I think he picked up a knock a few days prior to the game and got kicked in the same spot again during the match. When you go in at halftime, things can tighten up during that break. But I’m confident he’ll be fine.”
