Argentinas Scaloni…

Lionel Scaloni, manager of the Argentina national team, expressed his amazement following Lionel Messi‘s hat trick, which led La Albiceleste to a 3-0 victory over Algeria in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup.

“I’m almost speechless about Leo. What can I say? He’s simply incredible,” Scaloni remarked after the game. Messi made history on Tuesday night, tying Miroslav Klose for the most World Cup goals at 16.

Additionally, he became the first player ever to participate in six World Cups during Argentina’s match.

“It’s not a question of imagining [if he could have such a start]. He’s been doing this for 20 years,” Scaloni noted. “Fans want to see him, not just Argentinians. Beyond the win, we need to savor his presence. His impact on the world is astounding.”

Argentina took the lead in the first half thanks to Messi’s left-footed effort from outside the box.

He added two more goals in the second half before being substituted in the 80th minute, garnering a standing ovation from the crowd at Kansas City Stadium.

“It’s hard to describe, but we’re not shocked [by his performance] because we see him every day,” Scaloni said in the post-match press conference.

“As long as Leo wants it, he’ll remain the best; he’s consistently done this for 20 years. Watching him is exhilarating for anyone who loves football. He’s something beyond description.”

With this victory, Messi is now tied with Miroslav Klose for the most World Cup wins, boasting 17. However, Scaloni emphasized that the team must not become complacent, given the caliber of players in the 2026 World Cup.

“We won’t let ourselves get too comfortable; we know that if we perform as we did today, it will be tough for others to beat us,” Scaloni asserted after the match.

Argentina is set to face Austria in their next group stage clash on June 22, followed by a match against Jordan.
