SA coach says Czechia…

ATLANTA — South Africa’s head coach Hugo Broos criticized Czechia for their lack of footballing spirit following their 1-1 draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday.

The draw keeps both teams’ World Cup aspirations alive as they look toward their final Group A matches.

South Africa equalized late in the match with a penalty from Teboho Mokoena. However, Broos felt they deserved more from the match, particularly due to Czechia’s direct style of play.

“Czechia is a physical team that prefers not to engage in a passing game,” Broos remarked during his press conference.

“Their approach was straightforward, utilizing their players’ height, making it tough for us to cope with those high balls.”

“That’s how Czechia played, and it’s an effective tactic. I can’t criticize their strategy because it’s the coach’s decision. If I were coaching Czechia, I might employ a similar method.”

“However, as someone who appreciates the game, I find the way we played today far more enjoyable than the approach of Czechia.”

In response to Broos’ remarks, Czech coach Miroslav Koubek chose not to engage in any dispute. “That’s his opinion,” Koubek stated. “He can have that view, but I see things differently.”

Broos also expressed dissatisfaction with the Mercedes-Benz Stadium itself, stating, “To be honest, this isn’t a true football stadium.”

“It’s a lovely venue, a fantastic facility with everything one could want, but ultimately it’s just the pitch that signifies football. The rest doesn’t resonate with me.”

“It’s an enclosed stadium, and personally, I prefer playing in open-air venues. I struggle to feel the atmosphere here, especially when compared to a place like Azteca, which is a real football stadium.”
