Alfred Johansson has been appointed Motherwell’s new manager, with the Swedish coach intent on building on last season’s momentum at Fir Park.
The 35-year-old succeeds Jens Berthel Askou, who guided the club to fourth in the Scottish Premiership before departing for Toulouse.
Johansson previously led Rosenborg in Norway for two and a half years, leaving the post after being dismissed in May.
Motherwell said the appointment followed the same data-led methodology used to identify Askou and former manager Michael Wimmer.
“The data is crucial to matching our game model and pushing our evolution, but we also focus on bringing the right people to the club,” chairman Kyrk Macmillan said. “We believe Alfred has the qualities to implement his ideas. He’s a driven, ambitious young coach who wants to carry on last season’s success.”
Under Askou, Motherwell collected 61 points in his single league campaign, winning 16 of 38 matches.
The Steelmen face Faroe Islands side Havnar Boltfelag in the first leg of the Conference League second qualifying round on 23 July, and begin their Premiership season away to Hibernian on 2 August.
