FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Thomas Tuchel expressed his intention to allow England’s attacking talents to shine at the World Cup by following the principle of “not disturbing the music” as they prepare to face Ghana.

The Three Lions started their Group L campaign impressively, securing a 4-2 victory against Croatia in Dallas, with goals from Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and substitute Marcus Rashford.

A win against Ghana at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday would secure top position for England. When asked about how Tuchel empowers his forwards to play freely, he referenced renowned conductor Herbert von Karajan’s insight: “the art of conducting is knowing when to put down the baton so as not to disturb the orchestra.”

“I feel fortunate to coach such a talented group who arrive with a positive mindset already,” Tuchel commented. “The challenge now is to maintain that mindset.” He continued, quoting a conductor who emphasized the importance of not interfering with the music or the musicians. “This is our goal as a coaching staff,” he explained. “We aim to give the players the freedom to express themselves, especially in attack.

“It’s remarkable to see how well they buy into the concept of team defense. We performed excellently in the second half against Croatia, maintaining a high press. We wish to apply that same strategy tomorrow.

“The game will unfold in its own way, and while I anticipate a different dynamic compared to Croatia, we must be prepared to adapt to whatever arises.” Tuchel confirmed that his squad is fully fit, noting that Bukayo Saka returned to full training over the weekend.

“Everyone is available,” the England coach said. “All players participated in training. Bukayo has been showing improvement and is moving freely without pain.

“He completed both training sessions at a high level over the last two days, so he’s ready to contribute, whether as a starter or coming off the bench.”

England will conclude their group stage against Panama on Saturday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
