Teenage striker Felicia Schroeder has joined Real Madrid in a move her former club says sets a new all-time record for a women’s transfer.
The 19-year-old Sweden international has signed a four-year contract after scoring 91 goals in 128 appearances for Swedish side BK Hacken.
Last summer, Orlando Pride made Mexico winger Lizbeth Ovalle the costliest signing to date with a $1.5m (£1.1m) move from Tigres UANL, a then-record in women’s football.
Schroeder’s agent and the Gothenburg-based club have not disclosed the fee for her transfer to Spain.
A Hacken spokesperson told Reuters the price exceeds the previous $1.5m mark confirmed by Orlando Pride, but the exact figure will not be made public.
Real finished second in Spain’s Liga F last season, 15 points adrift of champions Barcelona.
The Spanish club said they were adding a player who was the standout performer at the recent Women’s Europa Cup.
