Everton Women confirm…

Scott Phelan has been named the permanent head coach of Everton Women after serving as interim boss last season.

The 38-year-old stepped in temporarily in February following the dismissal of Brian Sorensen and guided the team to an eighth-place finish in the Women’s Super League. When he took charge, Everton were only four points above the bottom, but he began his tenure with three consecutive league wins.

Phelan first joined Everton as an eight-year-old in the academy, though he didn’t make a senior appearance, and returned to the club as a coach in 2012. Former Everton striker Phil Jevons, who also came back on an interim basis in February, will continue to work alongside him.

“To have the opportunity to lead our women’s team as head coach is something I do not take for granted. I am looking forward to what’s ahead,” said Phelan. “We want to push forward and try to get back to the place where we believe Everton Football Club should be and that’s towards the top end of the table.”
