Ream: USMNT as a True…

SEATTLE — Defender Tim Ream of the United States men’s national team remarked that the team’s diverse composition truly reflects the essence of America.

Speaking to reporters before a World Cup training session at the University of Washington, Ream noted that the team planned to observe July Fourth by enjoying fireworks at a rooftop bar later in the day.

The U.S. squad is a blend of players who were born both domestically and internationally, including individuals like Weston McKennie and Sergiño Dest, who are the children of U.S. military members.

Ream emphasized that these varied backgrounds contribute to a unique dynamic within the team, fostering a strong unity among the players.

“It’s very special,” Ream expressed about celebrating July Fourth with the team. “It’s especially meaningful because it coincides with the World Cup and even more so since we’re in the U.S. We’ve talked as a group about how our diverse backgrounds and upbringings reflect what America truly represents.”

“We are a melting pot of personalities and characters, making it a perfect depiction of what the U.S. is and stands for,” he added.

Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino has also been embracing American culture. On Friday night, he threw the first pitch at a Seattle Mariners game.

“He has embraced the culture and infused some of his own as well,” Ream remarked about Pochettino. “After his first experience here in Seattle, he mentioned how much he felt when ‘Country Roads’ was played throughout the stadium. It’s truly amazing.”

Ream has spent the majority of his professional career in England with Bolton Wanderers and Fulham FC before recently joining Charlotte FC.

He expressed gratitude for the chance to celebrate the holiday in his home country. “Celebrating here is quite different than in the U.K. since many people over there don’t really understand the significance of the Fourth, which surprises me given their historical role in it,” he said.

“For me, it’s all about the classic BBQ, spending quality time with family, watching fireworks in the evening, and reflecting on what it means to celebrate our freedom and independence. It doesn’t need to be a grand affair, just acknowledging our history and the journey to independence is sufficient for all of us.”

As fireworks lit the sky and jets soared ahead of the France-Paraguay World Cup match in Philadelphia on Saturday, fans reveled in the dual celebration of the World Cup on home turf and the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The pregame festivities featured Tony Award winner Idina Menzel performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on a star-shaped stage. There were also performances by The Roots and the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, accompanied by two squadrons of jets from Naval Air Station Oceana flying over Lincoln Financial Field. Houston also joined in the 250th-anniversary celebrations with Morocco defeating Canada earlier that day.
