Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has signed a new contract, extending his stay with the Spanish club until 2031, as confirmed by sources to ESPN.
The 26-year-old player made the move to Madrid from AS Monaco in 2022 for a transfer fee of €85 million, with his previous contract set to expire in 2028.
Tchouaméni, who also represents France internationally, has been a regular starter for Real Madrid under coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and Álvaro Arbeloa. However, there had been speculation that the club’s management might allow his departure if it facilitated the acquisition of another midfielder.
Sources indicate that Manchester United was keeping an eye on his situation.
A crucial conversation between José Mourinho and Tchouaméni influenced the player’s choice to stay at Real Madrid and renew his contract. Mourinho expressed his intent to make Tchouaméni a key figure in the squad, reinforcing the midfielder’s commitment to remain in Madrid.
Questions about Tchouaméni’s future emerged this summer following a challenging period for Madrid, which included a confrontation between him and teammate Federico Valverde
.
While Mourinho continues to advocate for more signings, these moves will depend on the completion of outgoing transfers. Notable players such as Dani Ceballos, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, and Fran García have already departed the club this summer.
Currently, Tchouaméni is with the French national team at the World Cup, gearing up for Thursday’s quarterfinal match against Norway.
