Arsenal are poised to finalise the free transfer of goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Leeds United.
BBC Sport first reported Arsenal’s interest on 30 June, and an agreement has now been reached. Meslier and his representatives visited the club’s Hertfordshire training base on Tuesday to complete paperwork and undergo a medical.
The 26-year-old, no longer first choice at Leeds and out of contract this summer, is available without a fee. Uncertainty over current back-up Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future has led Arsenal to seek additional cover.
Initially, Meslier is expected to be third in the pecking order behind David Raya and Arrizabalaga, but he could move up to the No. 2 role if Arrizabalaga departs. His arrival is also set to trigger a summer loan move for teenage goalkeeper Tommy Setford.
