Burnley are in advanced talks to appoint Genk head coach Nicky Hayen as their new manager.
The 45-year-old has emerged as Burnley’s top choice following Scott Parker’s mutual departure in April. Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that discussions with Genk are ongoing, though no agreement has been finalised.
Hayen previously managed Haverfordwest County from 2021 to 2022 before a stint at Club Brugge, where he was dismissed in December 2025. He joined Genk later that month, leading them to seventh place but missing out on European qualification.
Burnley had earlier approached the Football Association of Wales to hire men’s national team boss Craig Bellamy, but negotiations fell through over the composition of the backroom staff. Former Wolves manager Rob Edwards is also understood to have turned down the role.
The squad will travel to the United States for pre-season, with friendlies scheduled against FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake.
Burnley finished 19th in the Premier League last season and were relegated to the Championship.
