Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, who is contracted with Marseille until 2029, is weighing offers from Fenerbahce and Atlético Madrid. ESPN sources indicate that he will make a decision between the two clubs within the next two days.
According to sources, the 24-year-old Greenwood favors a return to Madrid, where he previously lived while playing for Getafe during the 2023-2024 season.
If a transfer materializes, Manchester United is set to receive 35% of the transfer fee, a condition agreed upon during Greenwood’s transfer to Marseille in the summer of 2024, when he joined the French club for an initial fee exceeding €26 million ($29.6 million).
Fenerbahce has proposed a deal worth €42 million ($48 million) plus bonuses to Marseille, which would translate to €28 million ($32 million) allocated to the Ligue 1 club and €14 million ($16 million) for United, as reported by ESPN.
Simultaneously, Atlético Madrid has put forward an offer of €45 million ($51.3 million) along with bonuses, broken down into €29.3 million ($33.4 million) for Marseille and €15.7 million ($18 million) for United.
Both clubs have successfully negotiated personal terms with Greenwood, offering between €7 million ($8 million) and €8 million ($9 million) net per year should he choose to join Türkiye, or between €5 million ($5.7 million) and €6 million ($6.8 million) net annually if he opts for LaLiga.
While AS Roma expressed interest, they were unable to meet the financial demands outlined by the player, sources added.
Recent reports suggest that Greenwood created some disruptions at Marseille this season, including tardiness to team meetings and absence from sponsor events and French language classes. Additionally, sources indicated tensions between him and sporting director Medhi Benatia.
Overall, Greenwood scored 23 goals for Marseille in all competitions throughout the past season.
Marseille initially acquired him for over €26 million ($29.6 million) in July 2024.
