England midfielder Jordan Henderson humorously remarked that it was “not my finest hour” after sustaining a broken arm during the celebration of England’s World Cup round of 16 victory over Mexico last weekend.
The ex-Liverpool captain, who did not participate in the thrilling 3-2 match, still managed to get a booking and injure himself by tumbling over an advertising hoarding while celebrating with England’s devoted fanbase.
Henderson rejoined the England squad on Friday and was observed watching practice sessions with a cast on his arm.
The 36-year-old player from Brentford also participated in the pre-match warm-up for Saturday night’s quarterfinal against Norway.
“I’m doing alright, thanks,” Henderson said regarding his arm during an ITV interview. “Not my finest hour, but the main goal was to go out there, win, and advance to the quarterfinals, which we accomplished, so that’s what matters most.”
“The last couple of days have been a bit challenging, but returning to camp and seeing my teammates has been great. I’m grateful for our excellent medical team.”
“The doctors and surgeons in Kansas did an amazing job, and I’m very thankful for that. I’m just happy to be back with the squad today.”

So far, Henderson’s only participation in the World Cup has been as a late-game substitute in the 2-0 victory over Panama, but he will stay with Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the remainder of the tournament.
When asked if he might play if England progresses, Henderson replied, “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
