Thomas Tuchel is confirmed to continue as the head coach of England for Euro 2028, with the Football Association (FA) reaffirming their support despite the team’s exit from the World Cup semifinals, sources report to ESPN.
The Three Lions’ quest for their first major men’s trophy in 60 years remains unfulfilled, following a 2-1 loss to Argentina in Atlanta, which set up a final clash with Spain.
England led 1-0 thanks to a goal from Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute, but Enzo Fernández equalized in the 85th minute before Lautaro Martínez‘s header in stoppage time sealed Argentina’s dramatic victory.
Despite England’s failure to achieve their goal of winning the tournament for the second time, the FA intends to keep Tuchel, who is under contract until 2028 after signing an extension before the World Cup.
“It’s heartbreaking to come so close,” said FA chief executive Mark Bullingham in a statement.
“The players and Thomas gave their all today, and the squad, coaching staff, and everyone involved worked tirelessly throughout the tournament. I want to express my deepest gratitude to them and our incredible fans both here in the USA and at home. We felt your support at every turn, and it is disappointing not to progress further.”

Next, England will compete against France in the third-place playoff on Saturday in Miami. Tuchel expressed enthusiasm for moving forward to the next Euros, which will take place in England, Wales, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland.
“First and foremost, the World Cup isn’t over,” he noted. “There’s still a game to play on Saturday, one we’re not particularly looking forward to, but we’ll play it nonetheless.
“After that, we’ll continue our journey. I have a contract until the home Euros, and I’m looking forward to that, even if it’s hard to focus on the future right now.”
