Chelsea has unveiled their second kit of the summer, and unfortunately, it has not generated much excitement, despite the launch’s bold promise to “unleash the lion.”
The Blues have followed their lackluster 2026-27 home shirt with an equally uninspiring away jersey.
This might explain why they opted for a dark unveiling.

The away kit features a simple black base, elevated by yellow detailing in a laurel wreath pattern around the collar and sleeve cuffs, along with thin piping on the sides and shoulders.
Additionally, the material has a textured finish, featuring subtle ribbing and flocking, though it’s hard to appreciate these details in the sepia-toned images used for the launch.
Similar to the home jersey, the away kit also exhibits a minimal redesign of Chelsea’s club crest, retaining just the rampant lion and removing most peripheral details.
The choice of black and yellow pays tribute to the iconic yellow kits worn during Chelsea’s mid-1990s revival, a period marked by the arrival of legendary Italian players such as Gianfranco Zola, Gianluca Vialli, and Roberto Di Matteo.
It’s just unfortunate that the final product does not live up to the legacy of that era.
