CHICAGO — Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has acknowledged that there are “obvious” needs for the team in the transfer market as he aims to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
The club has already secured the signings of defender Jérémy Jacquet and forward Víctor Muñoz. Despite this, Iraola feels further reinforcements are necessary following the departures of key players like Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konaté.
“It’s hard to specify an exact number. Whenever the market is open, one must remain adaptable to new options that could enhance the squad,” Iraola noted. “We clearly need to acquire a winger, among other positions that require evaluation based on market opportunities, costs, and the capabilities of our current players.”
“We have some challenging positions due to injuries to players we trust, which complicates our situation. The outcome will depend on numerous factors,” Iraola added.
He further discussed the future of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who will rejoin the team for preseason training later this summer after his stint in the World Cup final with Argentina.
Linked with a potential transfer to Spain, Mac Allister, who has two years left on his contract, is someone the Liverpool manager hopes to retain. “Alexis was one of our standout players last season and performed well at the World Cup,” Iraola remarked. “It’s not unusual for our top talents to attract interest from other clubs, but my focus is on keeping our best players while also looking to add new talent.”
Liverpool is currently on a Premier League preseason tour in the United States, facing Sunderland, Leeds United, and Wrexham in upcoming matches.
